Florida researchers say that Vista, Microsoft’s newest operating system, is outperformed by the older XP. A benchmark test, composed of a variety of tasks using Microsoft Office 2007, took the test computer running Vista 80 seconds to run compared with only 35 seconds for the XP machine.

The nation’s PC shipments grew 4 percent in the third quarter as consumers upgraded to Vista-enabled PCs, market researcher International Data Corp (IDC) said yesterday, adding that the momentum would carry into this quarter because of seasonal demand.
